Habit Tic Deformity

An acquired habit-induced condition of the nails secondary to the repetitive habit of picking or pushing the cuticle of the thumbnail back.  The nail will consequently appear as a series of parallel, transverse depressions secondary to alteration of the nail matrix.  This most commonly occurs on the thumb nails and can be cured with an effective therapeutic approach.
