One-on-one live video call where you will receive a detailed treatment plan + referral coordination, labs, and prescriptions as needed.

Dr. Stern has treated thousands of nail patients and is very skilled at assessing all types of nail conditions with very high accuracy using teledermatology. If Dr. Stern finds that she needs additional images, you will be contacted by our team.

No. You do not need a referral to schedule a virtual nail consultation with Dr. Stern. New patients can get started by calling, emailing, or completing the quick check in form.

Dr. Stern does not accept any insurance plans. If you have out of network benefits, we can send you a superbill to submit to your insurance.

No. Dr. Stern does not participate with Medicare. If you are >65, you will sign a Medicare private contract that prohibits you from submitting to Medicare.

The main difference is that a video consult is a one-on-one live video call with Dr. Stern where you will be able to ask questions and Dr. Stern will order labs and send prescriptions if needed. For an e-consult, you will receive a response <48 hours of submitting your requested documents but will not be able to ask questions and will not have lab work or prescriptions. E-Consults are designed to help you with accurate diagnosis and a suggested plan that you can take with you to your local provider. If you want more high level on-going direct care from Dr. Stern, we suggest you book live consults and follow ups.

We will do our best to assist you but if we cannot connect efficiently, we can convert a video consultation to a phone call if you prefer and agree to that.

Please contact our team by phone, email or through our appointment booking platform. Cancelled appointments will be rescheduled for another date and the fee applied to the new appointment. We do not offer refunds for cancellations. If you cancel more than once, your appointment fee will be forfeited.

All consultation fees are due upon booking. For e-consults, if you do not receive a response within 48 hours of submitting the requested information, you will be fully refunded. If your scheduled video consultation does not occur, you will be fully refunded.

Yes. Virtual nail consultations with Dr. Stern are secure and HIPAA compliant. Your information, submitted photos, intake forms, and consultation details are handled through a private telehealth process designed to protect your personal health information.

No. Unfortunately because Dr. Stern cannot do a virtual biopsy, there will be times when she cannot say definitively what your nail disorder is but she will most likely be able to provide a list of possibilities and be able to counsel you on the next best steps.

Dr. Stern cannot accurately diagnose pigmented bands of the nail virtually. She prefers to evaluate pigmented bands (brown or black stripes in the nail) in person. If you have a pigmented band, she is happy to discuss your treatment strategy in a virtual consultation and refer you to a nearby qualified dermatologist, but she will not be able to tell you if a pigmented band needs a biopsy from a virtual visit. Dr Stern will communicate when a condition needs immediate in person care and for video consults, she will help to coordinate with a local provider.

If you had a video consult, Dr. Stern will coordinate care with a provider in your area. If you had an e-consult, she will recommend that you speak to your local provider about who to see for a nail biopsy.

Video consults will be provided with e-prescriptions if needed. If you have an e-consult and need a prescription, Dr. Stern will let you know what she recommends for your local provider to prescribe.

You can book a follow up video consult and Dr. Stern will be able to send prescriptions and labs.

If you have questions, you are welcome to book a follow up video appointment. Dr. Stern will review your case and be available for a one-on-one visit to answer your questions.

If you receive a prescription, Dr. Stern will give you several refills. For future refills you will need to book a follow up appointment so that Dr. Stern can assess whether your prescription needs to be changed or updated.
