Our Two Consult Types
E-Visit (Asynchronous)
You will receive a detailed treatment plan < 48 hours from your appointment time. Does not include direct care coordination, labs or prescriptions.
Live Video Consult
One-on-one live video call where you will receive a detailed treatment plan + referral coordination, labs, and prescriptions as needed.

Dr. Stern does not accept any insurance plans. If you have out of network benefits, we can send you a superbill to submit to your insurance.

No. Dr. Stern does not participate with Medicare. If you are >65, you will sign a Medicare private contract that prohibits you from submitting to Medicare.

Yes. Dr. Stern is highly skilled at assessing nail conditions via teledermatology. If additional images are needed, our team will contact you.

A video consult is a live one-on-one consultation where Dr. Stern can answer questions, order labs, and send prescriptions. An e-consult delivers a response < 48 hours from your appointment time but does not include live interaction, labs, or prescriptions. E-consults provide a diagnosis and suggested plan to take to your local provider.

We will do our best to assist you. If we cannot connect efficiently, a video consult can be converted to a phone call.

Please contact our team by phone, email, or through the booking platform. Cancelled appointments will be rescheduled and the fee applied to the new appointment. We do not offer refunds for cancellations. If you cancel more than once, your fee will be forfeited.

All fees are due upon booking. If you do not receive an e-consult response within 48 hours from your appointment time, you will be fully refunded. If your video consultation does not occur, you will be fully refunded.

Yes, consultations are secure and HIPAA compliant.

Not always. Because a virtual biopsy is not possible, there may be cases where a definitive diagnosis cannot be made. Dr. Stern will provide a list of possibilities and counsel you on next steps.

Dr. Stern prefers to evaluate pigmented bands (brown or black stripes in the nail) in person and will not assess whether a biopsy is needed from a virtual visit. She is happy to discuss your treatment strategy and refer you to a nearby qualified dermatologist.

For video consult patients, Dr. Stern will coordinate care with a provider in your area. For e-consult patients, she will recommend speaking to your local provider.

Video consults include e-prescriptions if needed. If you have an e-consult and need a prescription, Dr. Stern will advise what to request from your local provider. If you later want prescriptions and labs, you can book a follow-up video consult.

You are welcome to book a follow-up video appointment. Dr. Stern will review your case and be available for a one-on-one visit.

Dr. Stern will provide several refills with your initial prescription. Future refills require a follow-up appointment so she can assess whether any changes are needed.
