The nail separates from the underlying nail bed and the normal white tip of the nail appears to be tracking towards the cuticle. Although there are many potential causes, the more common include: trauma (such as overly vigorous cleaning under the nail), psoriasis and certain medications. Treatment is imperative as prolonged separation can become painful, permanent and irreversible.
